I realized a few years ago that, although I considered all of them to be my friends since 1930, I had little knowledge of where they came from or where they went before and after they were here. It's been a very interesting project.

Tony Guthrie

Tony Guthrie of Luther Rice Seminary & University served as transitional pastor of this church for several months in  2007.

Dr. Guthrie joined the Elberton FBC staff February 2009. He earned a PhD at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and is currently the Director of Doctorial Studies at Luther Rice Seminary. Dr. Guthrie received training as a Transitional Pastor from Lifeway Christian Resources and has served other churches in this capacity.

Dr. Guthrie was raised in Tennessee, living in Nashville from birth to age 10 and in Memphis from age 11 until 1986. He came to Christ in 1979 as a senior in High School.  After being in the construction business with his father and brother through the early to mid-1980s, he relocated to Atlanta, GA and received his call to ministry.  He married the former Celina Durham in 1988. The Guthrie’s relocated to New Orleans to attend New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned his A.Div.; B.A.; M.Div.; M.Th.; and Ph.D (preaching).  Dr. Guthrie has served as pastor of three churches from 1994 until 2003. In 2003 he became a part of full-time faculty of Luther Rice Seminary & University.  He also serves as a Certified Transitional Pastor.  Dr. Guthrie enjoys playing golf and spending time with his wife and children in family activities.
